Support for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

On The House “Complimentary 4 A Cause” Inc. is a new nonprofit organization founded by Shawnda Mays, a two-time breast cancer survivor who is 45 years old and originally from Toledo, Ohio. Shawnda first faced her battle with breast cancer in 2015, during which she underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and a lumpectomy, ultimately emerging victorious. 

In 2017, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, in search of better opportunities for her life and her business. However, her cancer returned during the holiday season of 2022, prompting her to shut down her business and resign from her full-time job at an orthodontist's office to return to Toledo for treatment, where her family could support her. During this time, she received chemotherapy and made the life-altering decision to have a bilateral mastectomy. Shawnda proudly embraces the title of survivor.

Her motivation to create this organization stemmed from the various challenges she encountered during her treatment, particularly the lack of certain resources, and her awareness of others who lacked the support she had. Currently, On The House is in the process of obtaining its 501(c)(3) status, which was filed on March 24, 2025. In the meantime, the organization is actively engaged in the community and is accepting donations.

Our mission is to ensure that cancer patients and their caregivers do not feel isolated. We provide resources to support individuals during and after treatment, including personalized care packages tailored to their specific needs and companion services. We want to accompany you through your medical appointments—remember, you are not alone. We also extend our support to caregivers, acknowledging that you deserve moments of relaxation and self-care.
